Hotseating helps develop the IB Learner Profile at Jamnabai
Understanding points of view, and different perspectives, becomes memorable when teachers adopt innovative teaching practices, discovered the Primary Teachers of Jamnabhai International as they commenced the 1st stage of the UDL program. Hotseating is a great tool with which to build enquiry, open-mindedness, and reflection all key elements of the IB Learner Profile.
“They seemed to really enjoy the character work within the hot seating and the lateral thinking improv exercises”, says Kathryn Doshi, our drama facilitator. Hot Seating is a very effective Drama Strategy. Questions are asked to someone sitting in the ‘hot-seat’ who answers in character. ”It is an excellent tool for exploring characters and perspectives. The lateral thinking and improv exercises aid creative thinking,” explains Kathryn.
Hotseating is one of the many conventions and strategies given to a school in the Using Drama for Learning Program. The next step, at Jamnabai will be during our implementation and support cycle, where Kathryn will be watching the teachers working with their learners, and will support them to further adapt hot-seating to teaching concepts and themes within their curriculum.
